Has anyone had their loop colostomy revised? I have had mine in prolapse for a year and 6 months. Originally, I thought he could reverse it, but no, so it's going in a different spot with an extra hole to vent. Has anyone else had this done, and how long was your procedure? And does anyone know how long you can keep your stoma in prolapse? Thank you.

Marecat I have seen on this site others that had a reversal, and they too wished they could go back to a stoma. Thank you, and wishing you the best of luck.

Hi Hatlady and all,

I've had my ostomy for over 50 years, since I was a kid, and didn't think I really needed to be part of the ostomy site. But once active, I came to realize, that although I may not need help at the time, I was able to reach out and  help others in need. Back in the day, before stoma therapists, I use to visit new patients in the hospital or homes ... While professionals are great, it is also good to be able to speak with people with personal experience. I was a free member for awhile, but after writing often, I was given free months. I then started paying, and decided to just take lifetime membership. After all, I was going to have my ostomy for the rest of my life. I'm one of those people who can disappear for a few months at a time, but I'm always glad that the site is here, I can return and reconnect with old friends, and make new ones. This is an excellent site ... Best regards to all ... and Best wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year.

Yes, but I had a loop ileostomy. I hated it because I had gas explosions in public places, causing me much embarrassment. I had the loop ostomy (two holes in a 2” stoma) without my knowledge after a failed BCIR. I also did not like the doctor who did it. I was really mad! I tried to get a revision at the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, and both said they wouldn't touch it. I then called the doctor who did my BCIR, and he said he could do it. Thank God he came through! I had the revision done at the Palms of Pasadena in St. Petersburg, FL, by Dr. Renke. No more gas explosions, and my stoma size is now 1-1/8”. Mike

If you mean revised and not reversed, my colostomy was revised to an ileostomy. My colostomy began prolapsing after only a few months, less than 6 months in fact. Each time it prolapsed more and more, and it not only looked horrific, but it was also a nightmare trying to thread it through the hole of the stoma bag to attach the bag. I suffered endless leaks. My gastric surgeon didn't seem to think it was an issue and attempted to manually push it back inside, which was extremely painful. Two nights later, it totally prolapsed, and a friend drove me to the hospital with me cradling my intestines on my lap, tucked inside an adult diaper to keep it from necrotizing. Two days later, my colostomy was revised to an ileostomy. It's neater, smaller, and far easier to manage. It's been almost 4 years since it was revised, and touch wood, so far, so good. Wishing you the best of luck.

Can I ask why you wish you still had a stoma? I'm getting ready to have my loop ostomy reversed.
