I just changed my bag, I have an ileostomy and it decided to be slightly active and I noticed where I had the separation that is healing well I saw the stoma nurse last week and she was happy but now there’s like a small lump that is identical to the stoma so I’m assuming it’s part of the bowel and when output came out the bottom part like normal small amounts of output came out on the top of my stoma from this little lump. It’s not been there before and could have been due to me bending a lot yesterday as I was assisting my parents while they built my wardrobe but I don’t know just seems weird for it to appear now. Has anyone had this or any ideas about it? I took a picture of the output on top of my stoma but I don’t know if like it’s a normal possibility or what really? Any help appreciated!

I think i had something like this when I was still in hospital after surgery. It turned out to be nothing and healed on its own. That said you need to get a professional to look at it right away. So call either your doctor or the stoma nurse and let them evaluate it.

Even though mine turned out to be nothing my stoma nurse took a picture and sent it to him. She didn't assume anything.

MeetAnOstoMate website turned out to be a lifesaver for me. I say this because, for me, this ostomy journey was a devastating event both physically and mentally.
Here, I found folks who understood my feelings even better than my family or friends could. Only a fellow ostomate can understand how you really feel.

Information sharing is key, as well as support and understanding, to ultimately bring more harmony into our ostomy life journey. I found here, virtually no ostomy questions that are not touched upon. Questions which some might feel, may be too trivial to contact a doctor about or even too shy or embarrassed to ask their own doctor about. They are all addressed here.

For me, anonymity was very helpful in seeking answers to each phase of this life changing medical and mental event. Sharing initial trauma feelings, ongoing support and finally acceptance was what I found with my membership here. I am not sure what my mental and physical attitude would be today without having found this site.

Additional benefits included: finding products and ideas to help with daily maintenance, innovative ideas and as a bonus - some great humor.
After all “laughter IS the best medicine”.

I have been a member for 3 years, an ostomate for 4 years - yes, I certainly wish I would have found it immediately after surgery but so very thankful I finally found it when I did as I truly believe it turned my troubled depression and situation into a more positive attitude and acceptance.

Sincerely,
An Ileostomate nicknamed Justbreathe 🫶🏼

Thank you! I will get in touch with them in the morning and see what they say.

The way you describe this makes me think it might be a small prolapse, when a portion of the bowel (or ileum) comes out of the stoma opening. This could have happened from the extra strain from the exercise you got. Does it go back in when you lie flat? Probably a good idea to see the doc or ostomy nurse about it.

G-Day NTTL,

I'm just wondering if you might have a loop Ileostomy.

I would consult with your stoma nurse and see what she/he has to say about it. Just to make sure that things are all right.

I’m not sure I didn’t try it laying back. I saw my GP and got sent to a&e so will find out hopefully although I wanted my GP to give me something for my anaemia and she didn’t.
