Hi all.

After my surgery I was left with a raging thirst that I could not quench.. I was told that it was because my large bowel used to take in the fluids I'll be thirsty all the time. I've been given Dioralytes on prescription. I'm quite happy with them was they really do work as in the thirst side of things, plus I'm getting the electrolytes etc.

I now have a litre of water with 10 sachets plus I usually drink at least a litre of plain water through the day.

anyone else using these?

I get 300 sachets per month.

I dilute a small amount of black current and apple juice with them

I enjoy the drinks so I'm not complaining. Just wondered what if any experience you've had?

No not regularly only when needed in our occasional UK summers, when I had jejunostomy I think I was about 2 litres a day of dioralyte, I know some need to drink it all the time every ones circumstances are different and you must really need it or your GP wouldn't allow it on prescription and been confirmed by your Consultant and dietician that it's needed 10 sachets in 1 litre a day is lot you must have a very high output no wonder your GP prescribes it for you, do you take anything else to help you gain weight and slow output down.

Yeah wow, this site helped so much, I mean really who do you know with this infliction? No one, felt so alone and disgusted by myself every turn.
But it ended up being so damn strengthening, I got fucking moving, really only another choice.
That's
Honesty
Truth
I was damaged by a procedure and ended waking with this, I understand all of you.. perhaps you had to have it, I get it.. doesn't matter either way.
Just wanted to share that

Weight loss, I wish lol

I had it put on my permanent prescription by the dietitic that was looking after me after the op.

My output is nothing excessive i don't think. It was more the raging thirst. I was drinking over 4 litres of water a day and that was way too much, I was flushing everything out.

Thanks for there reply though and I know what you mean about our 'amazing' summers here🙄🤭🤭🤭🤭

👋🏼Tony:-)

just a short reply this time..

firstly, thanks for yr like on me band pic..

‘twas -1°, thankfully the clobber keeps ya warm..

as Ben38 says thankfully we’re all different regarding output etc,

were you a big water drinker before ya op? not that i’m any kind of authority on these things, just interested to know, maybe it’s a contributing factor..

my op was seven yrs ago and i also had a raging thirst most of the time which as interestingly settled down a lot now!

i do still drink a good 2-3ltr of water a day, when i’m together enough to take water out with me that is :-)

fyi..

my snare drum sits Very close to my ileostomy and has caused leaks but i don’t care.. Nothing is going to stop me having fun or doing the things i love:-)

i picked up on your positive attitude in something i read of yours, “kindred souls” more power to you dude..

Bowie is/was the ultimate all round artist imo, i miss his input big time❣️

🙏🏼

best,

paul..

Hi Paul.. thanks for the reply.. I like your posts too mate..

I barely touched water pre stoma, I had a mouthful of water in a morning for my meds and the same at night, only ever drank tea. Hated drinking water..

Funnily enough, now, no problem with water and I can't stand tea any more..

I was going to post a thread later about taste changes post op for people.

Keep on rocking on with the drums.. love it mate!

Stay safe and well

Tony
