I know this probably sounds like a really stupid question, but I was just wondering if anyone has really bad pain around the pelvis area? I had my bum sewn up eight weeks ago and have got a couple of what are like holes in my stomach scar and my bum. Could this be causing the pain? x

Hi Kirsty, not sure about what's happening with pain and holes, but you should see your stoma nurse or GP just to get checked out. Take care, Ambies.

When I found this web site, I didn't think its name had anything to do with actually meeting an ostomate but I later learned there were some folks who did meet and develop relationships. How good is that? That wasn't my intention. I definitely didn't want anyone to meet me. I felt broken and wasn't prepared to express those feelings. I thought it was a place where ostomates wrote about themselves, posed questions, shared thoughts, told jokes and, sometimes, just vented. I thought of it as a community of folks with similar interests and various degrees of experience. Mostly I found some of the most caring, selfless, wise and understanding people I ever imagined. I was so impressed with some of the writings; not because of their literary value but the way in which they addressed such a very complex environment. I read hundreds of exchanges and admired the way folks cared for each other. I became hopeful with my own situation and looked forward to the next day's offerings. Certainly some contributors stood out with their experience or particular skills in addressing some things but it seemed like a total effort with synergistic results. I felt blessed to have found this site. I still do.

I agree with Ambie's. Just don't wait too long before you see someone - it's best to take care of a little problem before it has a chance to get worse and bite you in the butt, so to speak.

I'd get in touch with the surgeon instead of the internal specialist, or perhaps the internal specialist is your surgeon.

Once my rear was sewn, the surgeon advised me to expect a small amount of drainage from small holes in the first couple of months. He said things will heal over. Thankfully, I never had any drainage.

Knowing an internal specialist personally, they are not always the expert they make themselves out to be. There are some good ones and some bad ones.

If the surgeon option for questions is available, definitely go there.

The other thing I was advised to expect was false urges to use it, and they did happen and did cause a weird sensation. Not what I would call pain though.

Hope this helps.

Hi,
I have had similar pains around the pelvis area for around 9 months now. Mine are a result of my radiation / electron boost treatment to this area. The oncologist says it will take about a year for the pain to go. Have it checked out anyway by your oncologist or surgeon. All the best.

Hi
I had the same as Rob. I had discharge from the small unhealed holes for about 6 months (thank goodness for sanitary towels). It took 10 months to be totally healed. You should get it checked out by someone. Do you have medical practice nurses where you're from? They are a good first port of call. Good luck with it.

You could have a couple of the same issues that I had. First of all, the "little holes" can be a tunneling wound which you don't want to heal over from the outside as they can get larger and infected on the inside. My surgeon brought me back in and reopened my rear wound and packed it with gauze which a home care nurse had to change for months. This allowed the wound to heal from the inside out. You could have a tunneling wound and it could be infected.

I was also sent for a bone scan because I was complaining of pain in my hip. It turned out to be nothing and that pain was just caused by my odd sleeping position due to my wound discomfort - I was sleeping on my back with one leg cocked to the side on a pillow. I stopped doing that and the pain went away.

Thanks everyone! Going to see my doctor next week, so hopefully they will sort me out. Looks like I will be popping the paracetamol for a bit. Lol! x
