Hi just looking for some advice. My stoma nurse just suggested that I eat natural yoghurt and loperamide, as my out put on my ileostomy is very watery some times, (other times it can be quite thick and I need to squeeze it out of the bag.

I have been eating Muller light fruit yoghurt which I enjoy and I heard where suppose to reduce gas. Is this no good though? Why does it have to be natural yoghurt. Is it just to replace the bacteria?

I am actually not that bothered that the output is runny myself and don’t want to end up thickening it up to much and end up with a blockage. I think I may of had one of hem after the operation while I was in hospital and it was not pleasant. They said the bowel had not started working yet. It eventually did to my relief lol it was very painful.

I am really pleased with the end result. Being able to go out with confidence and not having to go to the loo every 5 mins is great.

Hi,

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but I was at the healthiest I had ever been prior to getting UC symptoms. I was eating very healthy and exercising 6/7 days. I'd love to know if any lifestyle factors affect UC, but I suppose I'll have to wait until they figure out what causes it.

I've been trying to occupy myself by being in contact with friends often, but some days I am really not in the mood and find it hard to drag my mind away from what ends up being a mountain of thoughts. I suppose it's all part of the learning process and I'm sure it'll happen less with time. This website has been great so far. It's great to be able to write this sort of stuff down and chat with people that understand what's going on. For that, I thank everyone on this website.

Thanks,

Hamish.

Wow--marshmallows, yes, but jelly beans make me go a lot!  And loose. I only wish I could eat them as "thickeners."
