I had a colostomy in 2010 and in the last week or two I feel I may be trying to obstruct. What does it feel like when you get an obstruction? I have massaged my belly and drank more fluid but didn't help much. Have more gas too even though my meals haven't changed. I have always had watery stool, then will change to more of a consistency and then back to watery stool. I take Imodium before I eat but it usually makes no difference. If there is anyone out there who has had an obstruction before, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hello there, I suffer with obstruction pain due to a hernia.  Pain is located right behind the stoma and can either be a terrible cramping  or burning feeling which at times can be extremely painful.  And of course there is no output until obstruction is cleared.  Some suggestions that may help you is to chew your food really well and drinks lots of fluids.  Hot tea helps me at times and also be sure to drink fluids during your meals.  May want to see a doctor if it continues.  Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Hello,mi read in your forum that you take Imodium before eating. Please don't or try consulting your doctor. Imodium is for diarrhea and it's effect is you really won't have any bowel movement because it's antispasmodic. I take that one if I have diarrhea and if I have to go somewhere and don't want to have output (air travel, out of town trips) and if I take one in the morning I have small output in the evening. If you are taking vitamins like iron stop it first because it can cause constipation or pain meds like tramadol. Just try soup first, avoid greasy foods first. Good luck and Godbless you!
