I have a prolaspsed stoma which bleeds from the underside of the stoma and the blood seeps through the other side of the bad causing an odor. Does anyone know something I could use to negate the odor. I'm not speaking of stool odor but of dried blood odor.

Thanks

Hi Alito - I am so sorry you have a prolapsed stoma.  I had one with my first ostomy years ago and thought it was the most traumatic thing I'd ever gone through!  Then my surgeon told me how many people live with them everyday.  You have courage, my friend.

I use something called WITCH HAZEL on and around my stoma.  It is a natural substance, I think from the yew tree.  I sometimes swab it directly on my stoma and have had no ill effects from it.  It has it's own peculiar scent which I think would cover up the smell of blood.  It's cheap and you can buy it at any drug store.  It's cheapest @ Target.

You might want to check it out with your doc or WOCN first though...witch hazel is an astringent so it can be a little drying.  Good luck!

Pinky,

Thank you for replying. I am such a bad Ostomate!  I am just now returning to this site in almost a year and have just seen your reply. I say bad because I SO need the encouragement and fellowship of other Ostomates. You would think I would have been here much more in the past. Thank you for the tip!!
