Hi everyone,
Another ostomate and I are thinking of starting an in-person support group for those of us in Tarrant County, Texas. It would probably operate out of Fort Worth. We think it would be a great idea to meet, share tips, support, issues, friendship, humor, understanding, etc. We could also have a swap meet of supplies that we don't need or don't work for us anymore. What doesn't work for anyone can be donated to those in need.
We think it's time we stop being so isolated.
Tell me what you think. Open to ideas, suggestions, feedback, coffee, tea... ice cream...

I was recently at a UOAA visitor's training session and it became so painfully obvious how much we need this mutual support. We started sharing right there. And some didn't even know about this website. Of course, I told them! You are so great!
I know there are quite a few on this site in our area. I do hope you look at this idea as a good thing. In the last year since my last surgery, I have really only connected in person to those few in that training session. Only one has an ileostomy like me, but she has been one for 19 years and an amazing support for me.
This is a great opportunity. Please let me hear from you!
Big hug!

Yeah a year ago I wouldn't have known what to ask to find out I had a parastomal hernia. The only reason I knew about them is from this site. Thank goodness for this site. Otherwise I would still be clueless. If I hadn't though from stuff on here to ask my surgeon about having a hernia, then I would have never had the CT and I would have never known that she should have known about it a year ago.
