I have an ileostomy and my stool is pretty much all liquid. Recently did some home renovation and put in an American Standard low flow toilet. I didn't realize the new toilets have a different compound in the ingredients that prohibits mold, mildew, stains and such from building up. It's about time! However, due to the extreme chemicals in liquid stool, they are not compatible with the new toilets. You can't use the old fashioned cleaners in the toilet, or you'll ruin the finish. You are supposed to use just soap and water. I have been cleaning my toilet DAILY with hot soapy water, and am having problems which I'm sure are related to the intense corrosive chemicals in liquid stool. Is there a chemical engineer out there that would have any idea how to circumvent this problem? Either something I should be using in my bag, or some other way to clean and protect the toilet? Technology is great when it works. But, we ostomates know that we are DIFFERENT. Thanks, Joan

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions, messages, and tips! So many have helped! We are learning as we go, learning the ins and outs of this bag. I have ordered special tape that does not irritate my skin and am now using Domeboro powder before putting on a new bag. My boyfriend says that my skin is so much less red!
Saw an ostomy nurse today; she said my boyfriend is doing everything right. One of my issues is that I am really thin, and my skin is really crinkly due to the surgery. We shall see how this bag goes.
This site is a real blessing. Everyone here is so awesome!
