amybonine,

just saw this. I guess your surgeon has helped you by now. please let us know the results. If you have an ileostomy I don't understand why you are having hemroids?

I have had my ileo for 30 yrs and I syill occasionally get phantom pains that feel like I have to go to the bathroom. Sometimes sitting on the toilet and pushing helps (and can cause said hemmoroids) and sometimes it plain old hurts to sit in general. Thankfully, these episodes are  less frequent now. Is this something similar to what you are experiencing?

Hello amybonine.  It's a difficult balancing act with haemorrhoids. You are right about pain medication causing constipation and this aggravates the haemorrhoids. However, as far as I am aware, it does not 'cause' them. There are some very simple and easy suppository treatments that will ease the pain and reduce the problem but these are only temporary solutions. The best treatment I found was laser surgery by someone who specialises in haemorrhoids and knows what they are doing. From bitter experience, I can say that you should avoid general surgeons who may be inexperienced in this field. All my present problems came about after surgery from one such incompetent surgeon, who decided it would be appropriate to strip the walls of the anus (and left the haemorrhoids in situ). This left me with all sorts of complications and after several more surgeries to try to put it right, I ended up with a stoma. Be warned!

Best wishes
