needs your prayers just saw my surgeon today and they decided to remove my rectum.... has anyone had this done? How long was hospital stay and recovery?

Can you ride roller coasters and lift weights after ostomy surgery?

- I can either choose to have a total colectomy with removal of rectum and anus and have a permanent bag.

- I can have a j-pouch formed and have a temporary ileostomy while it heals and then have it reconnected later on.

Anyone have trouble with obstructions? Seems like this is going to be a part of my great new quality of sucky life. Had ilio in March. First, I had a partial obstruction a week and a half later. Each time I read the replies to the topics on here, I better understand what folks are going through, i.e., can't sleep, leaks, skin issues, etc., etc., etc., and I keep thinking back to the days before I was given my ostomy. Hi.  Has anyone had surgery to their hernia which involved them putting the mesh in and then allowing it to close itself as tissue grow over it??

I believe this is one technique they use .... how long does it take and  is it as successful as closure when in surgery?

I'm not sure what to do about losing weight. I'm two months post-surgery (colostomy) and would like to start exercising. Besides walking, I can't seem to do a lot of twisting and turning. I recently had colon resection surgery where they removed some 14 inches. The surgery was about 7 hours and I couldn't get out of bed for 8 days. I have a problem with my stoma that needs surgical intervention,in essence it needs resiting as have fistulae which cause leakage and soreness.

That in itself is possible to deal with, it's just the anaesthetic I am a bit nervous of. In December I had a perforated duodenal ulcer which decided to perf when I was on night duty! Caused a bit of a kerfuffle

Hi everyone, well, it's been a month since my surgery and the pain is still pretty intense, and I still can't sit. I still have some drainage. I feel like I should be much further than I am. i am 2 weeks post surgery with a temporary colostomy.  the first 2 weeks bowel movements not very firm and required bag 'dumps' 2 to 3 times a day.  all of a sudden slowed down to 1 a day.  Normal?  not experiencing any pain or discomfort.  could it be change in diet?  not really sure what is best. doctor says follow normal diet.
