New "Quiet" Ostomy Bag Material

This topic is about Coloplast's promotion of their Sensura Mio pouches, which are designed to be quieter than some other brands' pouches that have been criticized for being noisy. Here are some insights and advice related to this topic:

1. The originator received a brochure from Coloplast promoting their Sensura Mio pouches, which are designed to be quiet. This is in response to complaints about the noisy, thin-film pouches from other brands like Hollister and Convatec. To avoid being stuck with a large supply of noisy pouches, the originator now orders supplies monthly instead of every 90 days.

2. The originator is interested in trying other brands like Coloplast and Convatec but has not yet received the sample kits they were promised. In the meantime, they continue to order Hollister pouches each month. They have also contacted Hollister to complain about the noise, suspecting that the company is receiving a lot of similar feedback.

3. Coloplast Sensura Mio 2-piece:
- Users find it quiet and quick to dry after showering, with a discreet gray fabric.
- The outer fabric was developed with input from WOC nurses.
- Some users dislike the "Click" mechanical coupling and find the pouch too short and difficult to empty.
- An alternative within Coloplast is the adhesive "Sticky/Stick" coupling, which avoids the Click ring. It is quiet, can be opened and re-sealed multiple times a day, and typically lasts about 5 days before the adhesive weakens.

4. Hollister:
- There are widespread complaints about the newer thin-film pouches sounding like "candy wrappers."
- Cloth-covered versions are slightly less noisy and useful for doctor visits.
- Some insurers limit orders to one month at a time, which helps users avoid being stuck with large quantities of an unwanted batch.

5. Convatec 2-piece:
- Preferred by some for ease of use and reliable adhesive coupling, similar to a sandwich-bag seal.
- A new Convatec pouch with a thinner outer layer and viewing flap was sent to users, but it is not noticeably quieter due to the crinkly inner plastic liner.
- Skin-friendly for users who have reactions to Hollister products.

6. General wear-time and management tips:
- Some users with adhesive coupling empty the pouch by separating it from the flange rather than using the tail, which remains secure if kept clean.
- Flange wear-time varies: about 5 days for frequent open/close users, 10-18 days for others, and shorter in hot weather or while swimming.
- Switching to monthly supply orders allows users to test new products and avoid stockpiling problematic pouches.
