Aer Lingus Baggage Policy for Stoma Products?

This topic is about traveling with Aer Lingus and managing stoma supplies during a flight. The person is planning a short trip and is curious if the airline offers any extra baggage allowance for stoma products. They prefer not to check a bag and hope their 7 kg cabin allowance will suffice. Here are some helpful tips and advice for traveling with stoma supplies:

1. Aer Lingus generally allows one cabin bag and one personal item, like a backpack or purse. Many travelers have successfully carried a small suitcase along with a backpack or camera bag without any issues.

2. It's a good idea to pack your stoma supplies in a backpack. If asked, you can explain that it contains medical items, which has been accepted without incurring extra fees.

3. Wearing your backpack on your back while boarding can help avoid drawing attention to it.

4. At airport security:
- Full-body scanners might lead to additional screening. You may be asked to do a quick hand swab after rubbing over the stoma area, but there's no need to expose the appliance.
- If you're flying from Dublin to the USA, you'll clear both Irish and U.S. (TSA) security in Dublin, which means two screenings, but none upon arrival.

5. For in-flight preparation:
- Try not to eat for 2–3 hours before your flight to minimize output.
- For trips lasting up to a week, pack four complete pouch changes (including bags, barriers, paper towels, and disposal bags) in a laptop-sized zip pouch that fits inside your backpack.
- Consider carrying disposable chemical “hot packs” to warm the wafer if a hair-dryer isn’t available.

6. Travelers have consistently reported positive experiences with Aer Lingus staff regarding medical supplies. There hasn't been a need for a dedicated "extra bag for medical" policy as long as items fit within the standard carry-on and personal item allowance.
