Tucking Ostomy Bag for Golf - Yay or Nay?

This topic is about finding the best way to manage an ostomy bag while playing golf. The person sharing their experience has had an ileostomy for a couple of years and is getting back into golf. They are curious about whether other golfers tuck their ostomy bags inside their clothing and if it's a good idea to try it. Here are some insights and advice shared by others:

- There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Your comfort, the height of your stoma, and your clothing style will influence whether you decide to tuck your bag or not.

- Reasons some people choose not to tuck their bag:
1. If the stoma is high, the pouch's tail might be at the waistband, making tucking difficult.
2. Letting the pouch hang freely can prevent constriction or blockage when a belt is tightened.

- Reasons some people choose to tuck their bag:
1. It prevents the pouch from swinging, being hit by golf clubs, or pulling on the adhesive when it fills.
2. It can improve appearance, especially with shorter shirts, as the pouch tail won't show below the hem.

- Clothing strategies for tucking:
1. Consider wearing trousers or shorts that are 1–2 sizes larger or made from stretch fabric, keeping the waistband above the wafer.
2. Use suspenders or braces instead of a belt to avoid restricting flow.
3. Some people fold the tail slightly and tuck the pouch between their underwear and trousers, while others let it hang down the inner thigh.
4. Joggers, sweatpants, or elastic-waist shorts are comfortable options, and dress slacks with braces work for more formal occasions.

- Support garments and belts that can help:
1. Stealth Belt Pro and its slip-on version help reduce pouch weight tugging and stay hidden under shirts.
2. Maddie Moo belly bands offer light support and concealment without restriction.
3. Hollister Ostomy Belt and Coloplast ostomy belt attach to appliances with belt loops.
4. Generic 1-inch support belts are inexpensive and can be easily tightened as the pouch fills.
5. Lizard Tail Belts are buckle-less and offer infinite adjustment and comfort.

- Extra leak-security ideas:
1. Wearing a light incontinence brief over the pouch can help contain accidents if a seal breaks.

- Activity timelines shared by others:
1. One person started putting and chipping at 7 weeks post-op and planned to take full swings at 3–4 months.

- General consensus:
1. It's a good idea to experiment by trying both tucked and untucked positions during practice rounds to see what feels safest and least restrictive for your swing and stoma.
