Swimming with a High Stoma: Men's Swimwear Options

This topic is all about finding the right swimwear for men who have a stoma located above the belly button. The goal is to find options that not only conceal the appliance but also look normal and feel comfortable. Here are some helpful tips and suggestions:

1. Rash Vest or "Rashie":
- These are commonly worn by surfers and look like a tight-fitting T-shirt made of Lycra or similar materials.
- They provide coverage for the stoma area and offer protection from sunburn and jellyfish stings.
- They are widely available in places like Australia, the UK, and the USA.

2. Stealth Belt:
- This is a specially designed ostomy support belt that holds the pouch horizontally and close to the body.
- It can be worn under standard board shorts or swim trunks, providing a discreet appearance both in and out of the water.

3. Women's Plain Tube-Top Bra:
- Use a polyester/spandex tube-top bra as a waistband by purchasing one that fits your waist measurement.
- Opt for black as lighter colors can become see-through when wet.
- It offers support and compression, keeps the appliance flat, and dries quickly.
- If anyone asks, you can say it protects a surgical site.

4. Board Shorts or Standard Swim Trunks:
- Wear them higher on the waist and tie the cord tightly to keep them in place over the flange.
- Many people wear trunks this way, and minor flange exposure is rarely noticed in busy pools.

5. Wetsuit Tops or Full Wetsuits:
- These are great for compressing and hiding the pouch, especially in cooler water temperatures.

6. Flange/Appliance Adjustments:
- Some flanges are larger than others, so trimming the top edge can help trunks sit higher while maintaining a good seal.

The general idea is to combine a support or covering device, like a Stealth Belt or tube-top band, with regular-looking swimwear such as board shorts or a rash vest. This combination can help achieve comfort, security, and discretion while swimming.
