First ostomy

This topic is about the emotional journey and adjustment that comes with receiving a first ostomy. It explores the initial feelings and challenges, as well as the eventual acceptance and positive changes that can occur over time.

- Many people experience a range of emotions when they first get an ostomy, including shock, fear, and a sense of loss. It's common to wonder, "Why me?" and to worry about changes in body image, losing control, and having to give up activities you love, like swimming.

- Over time, perspectives can shift. Living with a stoma often allows for more activity and can improve quality of life, leading to acceptance and even gratitude.

- It's reassuring to know that many others have felt the same mix of fear and doubt. These feelings are normal and usually become more manageable as you address practical issues and adjust to your new daily routine.
