The same mistake every couple of years

This topic is about the challenges faced by someone who has been using Coloplast ostomy products and is trying to switch to other brands. The person experiences repeated skin issues and leakage problems with alternatives, leading to a return to Coloplast products for relief. Here are some insights and advice shared by others in similar situations:

1. Many people with ostomies try different systems because everyone's body is unique. It's a good idea to keep samples and be open to trying new options.

2. For those who find Coloplast products work best:
- The SenSura Mio line is appreciated for its locking mechanism, flexible fabric, and the ability to fold the pouch in half.
- If Mio wafers don't stick well, you might try adding a thin ring or paste, or warming the adhesive. Use only small amounts of paste, as older barriers can lose their stickiness.

3. Salts products from the UK are praised for their design and comfort, though importing them to the U.S. can involve paperwork and customs delays.

4. Some Hollister users find success by mixing and matching accessories, such as using Hollister flanges and bags with strips, powders, or half-moons from other brands. Opaque Hollister bags are available from certain suppliers.

5. Supplies and accessories that might help improve wear time or protect sensitive skin include:
- Hipafix tape to secure the flange and protect latex-sensitive skin edges.
- Eakin Cohesive rings, tubular or ring pastes, and half-moon barrier strips.
- Adhesive removers: soak the outside first, then gently cleanse the skin.
- For weepy skin, try the "crystallizing" technique by alternating layers of skin prep and stoma powder (up to four layers) before applying the wafer.

6. If you have latex or adhesive allergies, consider using Nexcare latex-free bandages and paper tape. Be mindful of latex content at the edges of wafers.

7. Some suppliers mentioned include Byram Healthcare and Edgepark Medical. Brands and products referenced include Coloplast SenSura, SenSura Mio, Assura, ConvaTec Esteem One-Piece Moldable, Esteem Synergy Two-Piece, Hollister New Image, and Salts ostomy line.
