Ostomy Pet Peeve

This topic is about the challenges faced when trying to refill an ostomy rinse bottle at public restrooms, especially those with motion-sensor faucets or wide "shower" streams. These types of faucets can make it difficult to get water into a small squirt bottle. Here are some helpful tips and insights to make this task easier:

1. Consider switching to a pocket-size spray bottle instead of a squirt bottle. Some people find it helpful to add a little baby oil to the spray bottle to lubricate the pouch and reduce odors.

2. Bring pre-filled bottled water with you. This way, you won't have to rely on the sink. You can buy a 40-count pack of 17 oz bottles from Walmart for about $5–6, which can last a long time.

3. Use a collapsible water bottle that you can find on Amazon. It folds flat after use, saving space compared to many collapsible cups.

4. For restroom odor control, pack a travel air-freshener:
- Poo-Pourri "Before-You-Go" spray is available in small bottles that fit easily in a purse.
- Walmart offers mini cans in fun scents like Apple Pie and Pumpkin Spice.

5. Other common frustrations with public restrooms include single-stall layouts, lack of exhaust fans, and automatic toilets that flush too soon. These issues highlight the need for more ostomy-friendly washroom designs, such as those found in Japanese-style ostomy sinks.
