NEW BAG TAG SNAG

This topic is about the challenges faced by someone using a smaller Coloplast Mio pouch, specifically dealing with issues like pancaking and filter problems. Here are some insights and advice based on their experience:

1. The user, who is 5 feet tall, tried a smaller Coloplast pouch that seemed to fit well but caused discomfort and made it difficult to monitor output due to a small viewing strip.

2. The main issue was the pouch's small carbon filter, which vented all the air, causing thick ileostomy output to pancake around the stoma. Attempts to add air with a mini-enema bulb were unsuccessful, leading to leaks and stains.

3. After the first trial, the user cut away the cloth front to inspect the stoma and found pancaking around the filter opening. They plan to cover the filter with a sticker for another trial.

4. Additional concerns include occasional odor, unnecessary accessories, and a floppy outlet spout on their current brand that they wish to improve. They plan to discuss alternative options with a Coloplast representative.

Advice and insights from others include:

- Cover the filter with tape or the manufacturer’s sticky tabs to prevent venting and maintain some air inside the pouch.

- Request a no-filter model from Coloplast, as they offer a clear one-piece version without a filter, though it’s not widely advertised.

- If visibility is important, remove the cloth cover to create a full-window pouch.

- Mini or junior bags often don’t work well for ileostomies due to smaller capacity, leading to faster filling and pancaking. Many users prefer standard-size bags.

- Filters are often ineffective for ileostomates, with some users taping them shut and relying on sensation rather than a viewing window to detect leaks.

- Product experiences shared by others include issues with Hollister “Junior” bags and some adhesive and leakage problems with Coloplast Mio, possibly due to a defective batch.

- Stickers provided with some Coloplast samples may be too small or ineffective; regular household tape can work just as well or better.
