Trouble Applying Tape Smoothly on Skin with a Wafer

This topic is about finding ways to apply wafer tape smoothly to the skin, especially when dealing with wrinkles that can form during the process. Here are some helpful tips and insights shared by others who have faced similar challenges:

- A few wrinkles usually do not affect the seal or how long the wafer stays in place, so many people choose to simply ignore them.
- Avoid stretching the tape while applying it, as this can cause wrinkles when the tape relaxes.
- Here is a sequence that helps many people apply the wafer without wrinkles:
1. Warm the wafer by holding it against your abdomen or using a hair-dryer.
2. Peel the main center/backing first, fold the side wings forward, and place the wafer over the stoma.
3. Press the top edge down first, followed by the bottom edge.
4. Remove the backing from one side and smooth it on, then repeat for the other side.
- An alternative method is to position the wafer or barrier ring, remove the entire paper backing of the tape at once, and press the whole cloth area down firmly with four fingers. This method works well for convex Hollister one-piece pouches.
- Your body position can make a difference; some people find they get fewer wrinkles when sitting up instead of lying down.
- Adhesive extender strips can be used to cover or flatten any remaining wrinkles while also adding extra security.
- Some of the products mentioned by users include the Hollister convex one-piece pouching system, Hollister two-piece system, barrier rings, and adhesive extender strips.
