Ostomy appliance coming off during exercise - need help!

This topic is about finding ways to keep an ileostomy appliance secure during activities that cause heavy sweating, like hand-cycling. The person sharing their experience is a paraplegic hand-cyclist who has an ileostomy and faces challenges with their appliance loosening and leaking during intense training sessions. They have tried various products and techniques to find a solution that works for them. Here are some helpful insights and advice shared by others:

1. Eakin seals have been effective in preventing leaks for the person sharing their experience. They found success with a combination of a Pelican convex bag, Eakin seals, a light coating of silicone glue on the wafer, and Coloplast flange extenders for extra security during training.

2. Hollister Adapt Barrier Rings (flat) are recommended for their strong grip even when sweating. They can be a reliable option for maintaining a secure fit.

3. Some users have had success with Coloplast Brava seals paired with Stomahesive powder around the stoma. Adding Brava elastic barrier strips around the entire wafer can provide protection for up to a week, even in hot climates.

4. Hollister Barrier Rings and other Hollister products, such as cut-your-own skin barrier sheets and belts, are known for their strong adhesion through daily showers and several days of wear. Using belts and double clips can add stability, and placing a folded paper towel under the appliance can help absorb sweat during intense activities.

5. Brava protective sheets worn under a Coloplast flange can prevent rashes and swell rather than lift when moist. To use, apply the sheet (cut to stoma size), then an optional barrier ring, followed by the flange, pressing firmly for a few minutes.

6. Sure-Seal Rings by ALP Global are recommended for a waterproof, sweat-proof seal over any wafer. Free samples can be requested to try them out.

7. Coloplast flange extenders, including the belt-shaped version, offer reliable extra adhesion. Stretching them slightly during application can improve their hold, making them suitable for swimming and aquafit sessions.

8. Eakin seals have been confirmed to provide excellent results for both the topic starter and others. They can be combined with convex bags and additional adhesives to effectively stop leaks.
