Looking for advice on ACE stoppers and where to find them

This topic is about finding and using ACE stoppers for a continent ostomy, specifically for those who have undergone an Antegrade Colonic Enema (ACE) procedure. The person sharing their experience had an ileostomy that was later converted to an ACE procedure. They are looking for advice on how to use ACE stoppers, where to purchase them, and any practical tips to manage their stoma effectively. They currently use a small cap to manage the stoma but are experiencing occasional gas or fluid leakage and are seeking a solution to keep the stoma sealed between irrigations.

Here are some helpful insights and advice:

1. An ACE, or Antegrade Colonic Enema, involves creating a small continent stoma, often located at the belly button or lower abdomen. This allows a sterile solution to be flushed into the colon, with the expectation that nothing will drain out.

2. The person irrigates their stoma once or twice a week using 100–200 mL of sterilized water. Occasionally, they add about 10 mL of phosphate enema fluid to help soften stool and prevent painful, hard bowel movements.

3. Their ACE was created using the appendix after reversing an ileostomy. This procedure is beneficial for patients dealing with severe constipation but not suitable for those with rapid transit issues.

4. They are specifically interested in finding "stoppers" or plugs, or any other equipment that can help prevent the occasional escape of gas or fluid when only a cap is used.

5. A suggestion was made to consider Marian Medical’s “ACE Stoma Device,” which is a commercially available stopper or plug designed specifically for ACE stomas. This can be found at marianmedicalonline.com/products/ace-stoma-device/.
