Experiences with two-piece pouch system and best wafer seals?

This topic is about finding a reliable two-piece ostomy system for someone who recently transitioned from an ileostomy to a colostomy. They are looking for a system that is small, leak-resistant, controls odor, and has a good wafer seal. Here are some helpful tips and insights shared by others:

1. Try multiple brands: Reach out to manufacturers like Coloplast, Hollister, and Convatec to request free samples. This will help you compare fit, odor control, and size.

2. Coloplast Sensura Mio two-piece:
- Comes with a built-in belt for extra support.
- Available in smaller pouch sizes.
- Some users experience pancaking, but results can vary.

3. Coloplast "classic" Sensura two-piece (non-Mio):
- Trim-to-fit wafers are great for a changing stoma size.
- Pouches close with Velcro tabs, making them easy to empty.
- Use Convatec Stomahesive Barrier Paste around the stoma before applying the wafer for a tighter seal.
- Cover the pouch vent to prevent excessive vacuum and pancaking; reopen as needed.
- A light coating of Vaseline outside the wafer opening and inside the pouch helps output move away from the stoma.

4. Coloplast two-piece part numbers 10011 wafer + 11124 pouch:
- Suitable for very active users with a daily change routine.
- Cover the filter with a sticker to eliminate odor.

5. Hollister two-piece mini disposable pouches (approximately 7" in length):
- Preferred by shorter users and those who dislike draining; simply detach and discard.
- Medicare generally caps supply at 60 pouches per month, but private insurers may allow more if specified in the prescription. Extra pouches can be purchased online without a prescription.

6. Hollister two-piece drainable pouch with Velcro closure:
- After emptying, flush with a cup of warm water to keep the pouch clean and fresh.
- Medicare will allow a mix of pouch types if the doctor writes the prescription accordingly.
