Need help with ballooning pouch at night

The topic at hand is about dealing with a ballooning ostomy pouch at night due to gas buildup. This can be quite disruptive, especially when it wakes you up in the early hours to release the gas. Here are some suggestions and insights from others who have faced similar issues:

1. Try taking anti-gas medication orally. Many people find that swallowing Gas-X (simethicone) tablets is more effective than crushing them and putting them in the pouch.

2. Adjust eating habits to reduce swallowed air:
- Chew your food thoroughly and take your time while eating.
- Avoid using straws for drinking.
- Be mindful of spicy foods, as they might increase gas production.

3. Identify and limit foods that cause gas for you. While broccoli and Brussels sprouts are common culprits, other foods like bananas might also contribute.

4. Consider using a mechanical venting option. An Osto-EZ-Vent can be attached to the top of the pouch to manually release gas, and many find it more effective than built-in pouch filters.

5. Reflect on any recent changes to your gut flora, such as new probiotics or supplements, as they might be contributing to increased gas. Adjusting or stopping these products could help.
