Ileostomy Due to Anorexia: Seeking Similar Experiences

This topic is about someone who developed a bowel perforation due to long-term severe anorexia and malnutrition, which led to them receiving an ileostomy. They are on a journey to recover and are finding it particularly challenging to gain weight. They are reaching out to connect with others who have had similar experiences.

Here are some helpful insights and advice shared by others:

1. Attending hospital-run stoma support meetings has been beneficial both mentally and physically. Although they haven't met anyone with a stoma due to anorexia, these meetings are still a positive step.

2. Sharing updates on recovery and seeking contact with others who have faced anorexia-related stoma surgery is encouraged.

3. Asking for help and joining support groups is an important and positive step toward recovery.

4. Continuing to attend local stoma support meetings is encouraged, as hospital-based groups can be very helpful even if no one shares the exact same cause.

5. Anorexia-related stomas are rare, but persistence in searching for peers is encouraged. Others with similar weight-gain challenges may eventually respond.
