Wow, I love it. How did you get your stoma to behave long enough? Each of my three tattoos took over an hour. I can't imagine mine behaving long enough to get the job done!

Yeah ... what eefyjig said ... my daughter is a tattoo artist, but I don't think I'll be doing this. Good for you.

That's a great-looking stoma, by the way.

MeetAnOstoMate is an awesome group of people, going through similar issues. There is always someone who has information to contribute. I've been a basic member for years, just now decided to bump up to premium. Huge wealth of knowledge and support here, these people are great.

To make my stoma behave during the tattoo session, I irrigated with some water a few hours before I went to the artist, and I didn't eat 1.5 hours beforehand. My stoma usually is quite cooperative. I have a colostomy and very solid output. I imagine it would be difficult with an ileostomy, but my tattoo artist really wanted to think about ways to make it possible. As thanks, I didn't eat beans in the days before the session ;-)

Ah, a colostomy stays quiet much longer than an ileostomy. That explains it!

Now I see the original question was about an ileo. Then I wrote something about a workaround, but I should have read the StomaGenie suggestion from rlevineia first. That's much easier, so I deleted most of my post. I just leave this part: at first, I had my doubts about tattooing close to the stoma. I shared many of the concerns expressed in the comments. Reading about the hydrocolloid adhesive in stoma bags is what made me change my mind. It actually protects the tattooed skin and creates a good healing environment for the tattoo. My tattoo healed incredibly quickly, much quicker than without hydrocolloid (according to my daughter who has quite a few tattoos), no flaking, no itching at all. It worked perfectly. Just make sure the tattooed skin is clean before putting on a new bag/flange, but that is obvious. There will be some fluid buildup, so you will probably have to replace the bag/flange the first day. The next one probably can last for days, or up to a week, depending on your situation.
