Sometimes that's all you can do.

I'm impressed. I'd imagine you stared at her politely, the whole time thinking, "Wow, what an a**hole."

I just wanted to tell all the users of this site that I really love having the opportunity to express my feelings here. I'm positive that many feel the same. I wish that all here come out of the experience you have here will be like mine. Support and understanding from others with issues similar like each other will help us all and give the relief we all crave, well, I'm selfish. I'm here because I need support. And I find enough here to help in the tough times. Thank you. I really mean it.

Yes, there are definitely a lot of know-alls (more like know-eff-alls) out there thanks to Dr. Google. Sorry you had to encounter one. Strangely enough, I find that often the most ignorant effwits about ostomies actually work in medicine.

I'll never forget years ago, just before my surgery, I was talking to a friend who happened to be a nurse about my upcoming operation, and she told me that my years of Crohn's were probably due to poor diet (it wasn't) and that I could have prevented it and that the surgery wasn't that big a deal. She then proceeded to regale me with her dental problems, basically saying that having her wisdom teeth out was far more concerning than having a stoma for life?! Needless to say, she wasn't a friend for very much longer!

Good luck out there in sorting out the shit from the clay in the dating world; it's a bloody minefield, hey! 😊

Don't know how you stayed calm; she would have gotten my opinion of her. At least some people really don't know what they are talking about. Naive human, not worth your time or love. XX, so sad how some people are.

Unfortunate interaction for sure. Brush it off, though. Not everyone is like that.

Misinformation is maddening! I would never mention my stoma until I really knew the person. Women tend to be more grossed out than men. I went for a physical with my "former" MD. His NP evaluated me. "I see you haven't had a colonoscopy in over 5 years! Why?" If you bothered to read my chart first, you'd see my colon is in a garbage pail behind Mayo Clinic!! Got a long scope??

I love it when people who haven't dealt with chronic illness or chronic pain think it's as easy as reading a book to be grateful. No one can really relate until they're in your shoes.
