Hello, I am looking to chat with anyone who has had to deal with a c-diff Infection since having your Ostomy and would love to hear how you were diagnosed and how long it took to start feeling better and anything else.  Thank you, Pammer

Hi Pammer,

I never had C-Diff, but my Mom did a few years ago. She got it from taking care of a sick aunt and it almost killed her.  I expect that today Hospitals are better able to treat it than they were a few years ago, but she was hospitalized for a few weeks and then recovery at home took months.  Diagnosis was quick (a couple of days tops), but treatment was hit or miss and she got luckly.  She's fine now, but C-Diff is no laughing matter.  Get feeling better soon!

regards,

bob

Had it 2 weeks ago.

All blood in my pouch. Felt okay. Contacted my gastroenterologist's office. They told me to give it some time. If it doesn't improve or gets worse, head to the ER.

Went to the ER.

Diagnosed with C. diff.

Liquid diet, antibiotics, saline.

Once you smell this, you will never forget.

Spent 4 days in the hospital. Went home. Continued antibiotics. Ate/drank many probiotics. So far, all good. I do understand that it has a habit of coming back. Doing everything I can to keep that from happening.

Spray my home with disinfectants. Disinfectant laundry additive. Shower every day. Change pouch every day. Wash hands, wash hands...

You will know if you have it. My output was all blood. Bright red. The smell, unlike anything I have encountered.

Prevention. Do not take antibiotics unless necessary. I had 2 rounds of antibiotics for a sinus infection. Steroid shots as well. All set me up for a C. diff infection.

It has nothing to do with a colostomy. Hubby had diarrhea for a week but did not get the infection. Thinking this was how I was exposed. Body vulnerable to the infection due to antibiotics.
