I need to lose weight before surgery. Has anyone done the Cambridge diet with an ileostomy? How did it affect your output? Any problems?

The way I read your profile your cancer surgery will cause you to need an ileostomy. From what I have read about the diet it requires a lot of shakes, soups, a lot of water and not any solid foods. I would think if you already have an ileostomy this would cause a lot of output. Maybe you should talk to your Dr. There are a lot of people on this site who have an ileostomy maybe they can tell you more. How long before you have your surgery. Keep us updated as it may help others. Good luck.

Hi,

Not blowing my own trumpet or anything, but I was at the healthiest I had ever been prior to getting UC symptoms. I was eating very healthy and exercising 6/7 days. I'd love to know if any lifestyle factors affect UC, but I suppose I'll have to wait until they figure out what causes it.

I've been trying to occupy myself by being in contact with friends often, but some days I am really not in the mood and find it hard to drag my mind away from what ends up being a mountain of thoughts. I suppose it's all part of the learning process and I'm sure it'll happen less with time. This website has been great so far. It's great to be able to write this sort of stuff down and chat with people that understand what's going on. For that, I thank everyone on this website.

Thanks,

Hamish.

I clearly need to update my profile! I had the ileostomy done 14 months ago. All was fine for the first ten months and for the last six months I have needed a hospital admission every month.  I keep getting blocked not by food but kinking like a hose pipe, very painful and happens any time - my family describe me as a walking time bomb. It makes me very unreliable In terms of looking after my grand daughter and it's happened twice abroad. I'm thinking of starting a trip advisor page just on hospitals I have visited! Very recently - 28th Dec - I was admitted in France and had to have emergency surgery and a ten day stay in hospital.  Back in the U.K. now and the problem seems to be a hernia which was partially repaired in France but I need further surgery and the consultant wants me to loose weight prior to it hence the question re Cambridge diet. The op is scheduled March/April and I need to loose 10kg which is a big ask for me as I am hypothyroid, menopausal and on a low fibre high carb diet trying to control high output stoma. Any help welcome!

Mummy chicken, I have a colostomy so I really do not have a lot of information to help. But I know that carbs cause me to gain weight. Do you have a ostomy nurse you could talk to? Sorry I can't be of much help. That is a lot of weight to loose. Good luck
