My mom just had the reversal a few weeks ago and is feeling a tightness and burning sensation where she had the stoma. What helps with that pain? Is ibuprofen ok to take?

Hi aza,

Normaly when an ostomy is reversed they use a prophylactic mesh in the abdominal wall area where the stoma was located to reduce the risk of a hernia forming at the incision area.  That's because the abdominal wall is like a shield made of sections of muscle, and any time you cut thru that shield you create a weak point. and the weakest point is where a hernia will form, if it can.  So post-op pain in that area could be due to either infection or rejection of the mesh by your body.  If your Mom is experiencing something other than the normal pain of healing from an incision, and not exaggerating (my Mom exaggerates minor pain like it's the end of the world), then she should consider calling her surgeon.  The sooner you catch those things the better.  Just my 2 cents.

regards,

bob

She could try some anacept from anacapa technologies.  It is a clear, non greasy wound gel that helps skin heal, even if the wound is open.  I use it for skin tightening and sores under my appliance if I am having skin irritation.  It takes very little but I would use it daily or more often if it is needed.  You can contact the company directly and they accept orders and ship.

PEACE,

Nancy
