After my ostomy and then the reversal, I decided I'm going to have some fun. I took $275 and spent it on a front row seat to see Paul McCartney. If you are feeling down after a troubling time, do something you love to do. You will feel better.

Hi Itchy, my wife and I saw Bob Seger this past March for my birthday. What a great concert.

Great advice, Itch. When I considered giving up smoking years ago, I read that, to be effective, one should not give up something without also replacing it with something else. So, I decided to quit smoking on the day I bought and took possession of a new car. That was January 9, 1986, at which time I was smoking 3 packs of Marlboro daily. There's an old saying that nature abhors a vacuum. So, for all those contemplating losing something like weight or nicotine, remember to fill that void with something else and reward yourself appropriately. Hey, didn't Shakespeare once say something like, "This above all: to thine own self be.......good." PB

Hi Crossley. Ya know, I think it’s all about feelings. I don’t mean the pain feelings which could control everything. I mean the feelings inside our heads, our hearts and even our souls. I mean the feelings of who we are now compared to who we were; how we accept our situation or maybe we don’t. My wife asked how I felt and I said, “like crap”. She asked what hurt and I answered, “Nothing hurts, well, everything hurts, I don’t know, It all sucks.” That was a long time ago. You question if your feelings are normal. How normal is it to relocate your butt hole to your belly where it’s usually in the way of your belt and, you know. But that’s where we are and for lots of us we are so much better off than we were before, physically. Emotionally, psychologically, well, that might be a different story. I believe talk therapy is wonderful if we could find a real empathic or sympathetic listener. So guess what! I found MAO and began “talking” with a keyboard with some of the wisest, kindest most sympathetic and compassionate folks on the planet. Regardless of where we’ve been, lots of folks here have been there and worse places and found their way back healthier and happier. We really do help each other.
Keep “talking”,
Mike

Good words of advice indeed. For me, it's about time on the water paddling in my kayak or wrestling with my wolves... or just a big bowl of popcorn and a good movie... although... I must say, a new car would be quite cool, lol. Maybe I should sell some land and order myself a Mustang... I'd be hell on wheels... (maybe I should do everyone a favor and stick to playing with wolves, lol)

Paul McCartney would depress me! God, he's well past it! And he definitely doesn't need the money!!!

Well Bigtrev, we are not here to criticize our tastes in music but to do something that makes you feel good after traumatic medical problems.

I think that's a great idea; most people here have been through quite a traumatic event, and you totally forget to reward yourself. I know that as a mother of three, I very rarely put myself first, and one of the things I promised to do after my episode was to try to take better care of me. Even if it's just taking a few minutes in the morning to go through my routine in peace, it's something I can do for myself :-) You should reward yourself with whatever makes you happy :-)

Itchy, good for you!! I too saw Paul McCartney, and he sold out Yankee Stadium and rocked the house. I have also traveled to Europe quite a bit and enjoy seeing European countries. Do what you like to do, throw caution to the wind, treat yourself; you only pass this way once.
