My stool is leaking around my stoma. This is causing my skin to become very irritated. Any suggestions on what I can do to stop the stool leakage and how to treat my very sore skin around my stoma?

Very helpful

Wear a belt to hold the pouch in place and prevent leaks

Use a skin prep to help skin. How long does your kit last?

Every morning when I enjoy my big cup of coffee I scroll through this site and this warm feeling just overwhelms me.

I never post anything (too shy and it feels like I don’t have anything of interest to share tbh) but I sure read a lot of posts from you guys and they are so informative, supportive encouraging and so so full of love and a big dose of humor.

I feel like part of the best family in the world (even though I am just sitting quietly in the corner lol).

I just wanted to share that feeling and say thanks to all of you for being so wonderful.

And also, please keep some fingers crossed for me this week. I have my blood test on Thursday, checking my CA 125 levels. Ovarian cancer reoccurrence fear unlocked again. I hate it!

Lots of love from Sweden

May need to recheck the size of your stoma. Sometimes it does change in size. I use a protective ring under my wafer. I use Eaken seals. There are other kinds though. It protects the skin and absorbs the leak until you can get it changed. I have a lot of watery output and those have been a life saver for me. They literally heal my skin. You can call ConvaTec and get some free samples.

Hi RJG,

Could be a whole host of reasons why you're getting leaks, so the first thing you should do is consult an ostomy nurse. She can review what you're doing now and if what you're using is appropriate for your situation. If you don't already know an ostomy nurse then call the hospitals in your area and ask. If you still come up empty, contact the company that makes the ostomy products you now use... i.e., Hollister, ConvaTec, Coloplast, etc. They all have ostomy nurses on their staff that will discuss your situation with you, recommend the appropriate products, and send you free samples to try. That's really your best bet instead of us just guessing at what your issues are and making suggestions without knowing what your real problem is. Let us know how you make out.

You'll have to go into more detail on what you use for products.

I'll throw out one thing I haven't seen yet. Are you warming your barrier by keeping your hand over it (with bag in place) for at least 5 minutes? The adhesive likes it when you do that. At least mine does. :-)

You need a sealing washer before you put the bag on, they work wonders. Regards IGGIE

What do you mean by "My Kits last me"? Are you trying to make your bag last as long as you can? You should change every 3 to 4 days. Regards, IGGIE
