Does anyone do core exercises? I have a permanent ileostomy and do some exercises.

Yes, it's the best thing we can do in the fight against developing hernias. I know I have a hernia myself now, but it did take me over 30 years to get one.

The latest thinking is that even if you have a hernia, you should still do core exercises, as it might slow down or even prevent the hernia from getting any bigger.

After I got my ostomy I found this site and got a lifetime membership. I have had so much help from the core members, things that even the wound care nurses didn't know. If you haven't been through this journey you don't know - only the people that have experienced this first hand truly understand what your going through. The support is enormously helpful getting through this. Afterwards when you start to learn how to deal with this new normal you can begin to help others.  ...mtnman.

Yes, I do core exercises and have been since the early days. I like to think it has protected me from a possible hernia. Planks are good, and gentle leg lifts, one leg at a time, no crunches. There are specific exercises for ostomates; if you Google it, you will even find some videos.

Yes, I still do core exercises. I have been cautioned against doing planks and sit-ups. There are a lot of exercises that also help.

That was a good question. I've been looking to see if there are core exercises I can do.

I just had hernia repair 2 months ago, and my stoma was moved to my left side. I have an ileostomy; I have had it since I was 12. This is my 4th stoma. I'm recovering well, building my strength back. I walk as much as I can and go up and down my 2 flights of stairs in my apartment building. Have a good night!
