Adapt is so messy to use. Any suggestions for something else?

G-Day Kimy, All the different companies make sealing washers that fit over the stoma before the base or bag is fitted. They will send you some free of charge to try. The paste is messy and time-consuming. You have to measure the diameter of your stoma to get the right seal. Regards, IGGIE

Short review. MAOM has helped me feel better by helping others it made me feel useful, worthy, important. It took my depression away. The more you use the site the more you get out of it.

I agree with IGGIE. You should try the moldable ring seals. They work pretty well for me.

When I was in the hospital, the ostomy specialist warned me against using paste. He said it is too messy and hard to clean up. He had me use:

Eakin Cohesive Slims -- ConvaTec Item# 839005

I later started using:

Brava Protective Seal -- Coloplast Item# 12035

The Brava ring leaves no residue, which I really like, but after much absorption, it begins to push the barrier up, reducing my wear time. Therefore, I have returned to using the Eakin, which does leave a little residue — not much to clean up. Even though I have a colostomy, my output is watery unless I eat bananas. If your output is more formed, Brava may work for you. By all means, get a barrier ring.

Adapt has barrier rings. You don't need the paste, and the rings work much better. No mess.

I use the Adapt 507815 slim ring. It works well with my convex wafers.

I ordered a sample of the Adapt slim ring to see if it (1) doesn't leave much residue and (2) pushes up against the wafer as it absorbs moisture. Eakin fails (1) and Brava fails (2). I'm always on the lookout for one that satisfies both. It has to stand up to watery output as well as (1) and (2).

Thanks for the alternative, Dan.

I haven't had any residue issues with the 815, and I regularly get ~7 days out of a wafer. Although that is sometimes pushing it depending on my activity.

If you like using paste, have you tried the strip paste? It's paste in solid form. You can flatten it, make whatever shape you want without the mess.

Thanks, Iggie. Is that the same thing as the “sealing rings”?
Also, I love Australia even though I've never been there!
