Does anyone else use pure glycerine to create a lubricant to avoid the bag going into vacuum or pancaking?

Is there something better to try?

I don't use lubricant anymore. In regards to the pancaking, if you have a vent on your bag, just cover it with tape. You will have to burp your bag if you have a lot of gas, but to me, it's better than pancaking.

I’ve only been on this site a little bit, I hardly know how to navigate it, LOL! I just want to say that everyone seems so kind and supportive to each of the members and it’s not only helpful, it makes me happy that there really are so many nice people in this world that can sometimes feel so bleak and cold. I didn’t even know about this site until I found it by accident. I think the hospital staff should bring it to their patients’ attention. Thanks to all, even if you’re just listening!

Hi Shalaway,

I recently joined this forum to exchange helpful tips as my husband is a new ostomate, 8 weeks now. I searched about vacuuming and pancaking as this seems to be his biggest issue, and I'm going to post if anyone finds that keeping extra air in the bag prevents this. It seems that's the only time he doesn't get a leak. He is using a no-filter 2-piece Hollister drainable so he can burp if he needs to, using a blow dryer to push air into the bag via the drain opening. It seems when there's a vacuum, output just can't exit into the bag. Have you found something that helps resolve this?
