I had my reversal surgery 6 days ago! I will feel the urge to have a bowel movement, but when I actually go, there appears to be no stool, just bright red blood! The doctor claims it's normal, but it still worries me! Has anyone else had this problem after reversal surgery, and how long did it last? I've not been able to eat yet due to always feeling full and bloated😢, and have had a lot of pain. Are these things normal, and when will I feel better?

G-Day Dave, many years ago when I had my colon removed and a J-Pouch fitted, I also would have a very urgent need to go to the toilet only to find blood and nothing else. Dave, after 6 days, that is very normal and it will get less. But keep an eye on it and let the doctor know if it continues for too long. Regards, IGGIE

Oh Dave, I am sorry you are going through that! Are you in a lot of pain? Was it worth it, or is it too soon to say?

Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Dave, what type of reversal did you have, was it a colostomy or was it an ileostomy?

First off, it does get better. I had an ileostomy reversal with a J-pouch 5 weeks ago, and the first week was very painful with urgent and frequent bathroom visits, with a very sore backside. They had me eating low-fiber foods the day after surgery, although my appetite was not great, but it did improve slowly over time and it does help with the normalization and restarting of the part of the bowel that was resting/sleeping. It will get better, and be sure to tell your doctor, nurses, and medical team what you are experiencing and how you are feeling.

All the best, it does get better.

Hey Dave, are you home or in the hospital? I'm asking since you said you haven't eaten yet.
