Is there anything the doctor can prescribe to help with a body that produces a lot of rectal mucus that doesn't want to come out? I am at my wit's end. I just want to get going in the morning and not spend it trying to push out mucus.

Does it cause you pain or discomfort?

I go through periods where I get lots of mucus for a month or two, ... then nothing for four or five months.

I have a colostomy, 18 months post-op.

Have you done enemas?

Hmm. I don't see any mention of an ostomy. Therefore, I believe you have your God-given digestive tract intact, untouched by surgery.

If this is true, you're trying to expel mucus from a normally operating colon. Then your doctor should be able to help you if warm enemas aren't. You posted an earlier topic on this around September 12th... "help," I believe it was...

I, for one, would like to know more details about this digestive tract than assuming you just have a normal colon behaving badly and/or being restricted—blocked perhaps? And mucus is resulting from this...

I had that issue with my temp ileostomy. I was so happy when they removed my colon and did the end ileostomy and removed that painful rectum and sewed it up. No more pain and no more mucus.
