The surgeon said it will be a very complicated surgery based on the original colostomy surgery. Severe diverticulitis and lots of scar tissue, not to mention vaginal fistulas connected to the colon. He said he will most likely do a loop ileostomy to allow the colon and rectum to heal. Has anyone else experienced a loop ileostomy to allow the colon and rectum to fully heal? I would appreciate any information about this.

No experience but from my research, over time you will be fine. Good luck.

Hi tn,

There are lots of folks on here with a loop... I'm sure they'll chime in shortly. You're in good company!

Hello everyone!!!

It has been almost a year since joining this site. I just wanted to share. I know a lot of people get concerned about meeting someone on here. I'm not a lifer membership and I had someone initiate to take me out. I've been divorced since 2009. He lives in Chicago. I ignored the first time thinking he was joking. I live in Milwaukee. So a month later he sent me a message through this site saying he wanted to meet me. That was in April this year. I must say it was the best thing that could happen to me. We talk almost every day. We have so much in common. He comes up all the time to spend the day or weekend together. It really does make a difference when someone has an ostomy like you. Such understanding and we always have something to talk about. I want to share because sometimes people think it's hard to meet someone or they say this site doesn't work. I'm a testimony that this site does work. We are talking marriage this time next year. I will keep you posted.

I swear we are having the exact experience. Make sure he gives you a stoma hole that isn't right against your skin so you can avoid burning and itching. Because that is miserable.

I found that my ileostomy was very runny all the time. Food passes quickly so be close to the potty.

I had vaginal fistulas as well. But they did heal with surgery.

You got this. This journey is tough. But give it to God and it will make it possible. 💜❤️🩷

I have loop illeostomy from Diverticulitis as well. I have had no other surgeries than this so not sure if my input helps. First 2 months were smooth but got infection and recently sneezed and created pain that's not going away. No one has consulted me about scar tissue but I'm curious about yours
