Here's a weird question for everyone.

I am 18 months post blow hole iliostomy. The most use I get from a pouch is 3 days.

I seem to get bad breath that smells like poop. It's not dental because I see the dentist regularly.

I also can smell poop in my sweat, but there isn't any leak. Then my clothes reek.

Any suggestions?

Geekyjen,

Thanks for the reply.  I will be seeing my doctor on Friday and mention Entyvio.  I did not remain paralyzed for more than 2 days, but it was terrible and I was so scared.  The doctors just used alot of xanax and other drugs like that to UN paralyze my joints that were being attacked by the remicade.  Turns out I have been diagnosed with LUPUS. It is attacking my nervous system.  I had ulcerative colitis in 1996 and they had to remove my colon.  Had a J pouch for 10 years, until it started failing.  I then got a permanent iliosomy, and I suffer from severe chronic diareha, and I dehydrate frequently.  I recently had a proctectomy, and that is when the new autoimmune disorder, Lupus, appeared.  I have had two hospital stays now because of the blisters and the paralyzing incident.  I will be dealing with this forever now.  I have just been working on acceptance.

I love this website because of wonderful people like you!

Hi Kay-K,

First, you're not smelling poop. You're smelling bacteria that lives on your skin that interacts with your perspiration, and in your mouth that interacts with what you eat. Having both conditions at the same time can be caused by a couple of serious diseases, like kidney disease or liver disease. There are also some less serious possibilities, including certain medications, but I would get it checked out by a good doctor. Otherwise, all the kids in the neighborhood will be calling you the Poop Lady!

Very helpful

Just my 2 cents - I have ileostomy for 35 years and have tried most products here and there.  I have found for the liquidy ileostomy that using 2 piece Convatec flexible flanges is amazing for flexibilty and I usually get 5-6 days between changes under normal conditions.  I also had a Doc prescribe me Luxiq foam or Betamethasone Valerate FOAM (not gel - gel is greasy) and it keeps the skin amazing since I got it.  Happy to answer any questions anytime!  First couple years can be a learning curve.

Hi TG,

Be careful with the Betameth... it's a high-strength steroid and overuse will cause it to thin out your skin... a condition that's not reversible. I agree... it's an awesome drug... just like prednisone... but too much or used for too long and you're asking for trouble.
