Hi,
Does anyone have a jpouch and had it temporarily disconnected due to inflammation and then had it reconnected after it healed?

If so, did the inflammation come back after the reconnection?

Yep, had it disconnected and I'm never going back.

Do you have any rectal mucus issues?

Hubz had a regular checkup with the oncologist on Friday (his numbers are improving), and as they were asking how he's feeling since surgery, they became curious about how he's doing so well with his ostomy, both physically and mentally. He credited doing research online, trying different things, and especially the support from this group. They were asking because they see so many patients struggling to adjust.

We described this group as folks with every kind of ostomy, some for days while others for decades, but all willing to share what's worked for them with the caveat that every individual is different.

We described the most valuable element as feeling like you're not alone in this. That really piqued their interest, and they wrote down the link. It seems they had a few people in mind that might benefit from the community and thanked us for telling them about it.

You know, we can't remember exactly who we learned about this group from, but we're grateful for it every day! Thank you all! 🌻

I also got rid of my J-Pouch and would never, and I mean never, go back to it. My ileostomy gave me my life back. Regards, IGGIE

Can the jpouch stay disconnected forever, or does it have to be removed at some point?

When I asked the same question of my surgeon, from memory he said nope, not yet, whatever that means, and that was eight years ago. After I went back to the ileo, I was still suffering from pouchitis/cuffitis for a while. I questioned him about removing it then, and he was still reluctant to do so. I know him well and also see him every two years, as he also does colonoscopies in my hometown for a day away from the pressures of the big smoke, so if there are any concerns, I would know about it. And the cuffitis/pouchitis disappeared after about 6 to 7 months.

Better to remove it and get your butt sewn up.  Regards IGGIE
