Dr. connected the rectum to the colon on October 12. He took down the colostomy and created an ileostomy. He said he did it to allow the colon and rectum to heal thoroughly. I am tentatively scheduled for reconnection after 3 months (possibly January/February). If no reconnection occurs, what are my options?

Technically you are now reconnected. The ileostomy is redirecting output to the bag while the reconnection heals.

At the end of the 3 months, the plan is to take down the ileostomy and allow output to flow thru the colon and exit the old way.

If you choose not to do the surgery to take down the ileostomy, then you will be left with the ileostomy.

Hopefully, that clarifies things.
