Hi everyone,

I had an ileostomy and proctectomy in August last year.

My Barbie bum is still numb; will it stay that way?

Any answers gratefully appreciated 😊

That's a long time. I had pain blocks put in at surgery that really helped with pain control, but they didn't last nearly that long. Now, maybe you have nerve damage (they do cut through a lot of them during surgery), which does take a long time to truly heal.

I experienced the numbness after mine. I agree that it is nerve damage. It took a long time to heal up.

Totally agree with all said. Nerve damage takes a long time, but it will get better. Regards, IGGIE

I had this surgery done last May, and the numbness is permanent. The problem I have had post-op is with itchiness in the area where the skin was folded over and stitched. The dermatologist prescribed Desonide topical cream, and it has helped. The itching was so bad I felt like taking an angle grinder to it, and it would keep me up at night.

I only had the itching once, and it was awful. I know what you mean about the angle grinder, though; I just can't get used to the weird way it feels. I want to tear it all apart, but I know I can't.
