Need advice on how to still ride competitively after my upcoming colostomy.

Let yourself heal completely (it takes longer internally than you think) before starting back to doing it. Otherwise, you shouldn't have too much to worry about. Enjoy.

I just wanted to tell all the users of this site that I really love having the opportunity to express my feelings here. I'm positive that many feel the same. I wish that all here come out of the experience you have here will be like mine. Support and understanding from others with issues similar like each other will help us all and give the relief we all crave, well, I'm selfish. I'm here because I need support. And I find enough here to help in the tough times. Thank you. I really mean it.

Totally agree with Alex,

Cycling should be no problem as long as you give it plenty of time to heal. It looks good from the outside, but inside it takes a lot longer. Talk with your stoma nurse and doctor and ask for a time plan. Waiting until you're okay will be well worth the wait.

Sitting on the seat could be uncomfortable for a time after surgery that varies in how long it lasts; other than that, I can't see you having any problems, even more so as you do competitive cycling. You must be a very determined and dedicated person.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm a paraplegic and ride a handcycle, so I lie in a prone position and obviously don't have feeling or abdominal muscles. Hoping this may make getting back on the bike easier and faster. But I'll be careful and follow orders (hopefully 😜)

G-Day Andrew,

Left out just a small point, yes.

I still reckon you will be OK. But wait till it's all healed inside.

And don't make your first test run Table Mountain.
