Hello everyone,

I have started doing irrigation. My stoma nurse has shown me first; now I want to do it myself. I have all the equipment.

Can anyone tell me if it is okay to irrigate if you are still passing stools, or do you have to wait until you stop?

Regards.

Kinda messy when passing stools, but it is doable. I did irrigation for almost 10 years.

Thanks for replying.

How did it work for you? I assume it worked for you after 10 years?

It worked really well. I would irrigate every one or two days; it was nice having an empty bag most of the time. The process would take approximately an hour. I would irrigate, then take a shower. Evening worked best for me; it's best to do it at the same time. I stopped after getting pregnant, and then after having two children very close together, I developed a large hernia with my stoma. So, the irrigation did not work very well. I had the hernia repaired, but now I regulate my output by eating less food during the workday. It usually works pretty well and keeps my weight down.
