Has anyone had this done? I had mine yesterday morning, Thursday morning. I have not slept much; I am in so much pain. I'm taking pain pills, but they only dull it a little; they don't do much more. It hurts just to get up and walk to the bathroom, which I have to say is 15 steps away, let alone anywhere else. I've been taking my hydrocodone I already had, and my doctor had called in a prescription for oxycodone, and I didn't find out until the pharmacy was closed because no one told me, so I'm going to get that when the pharmacy opens at 10:00. Tell me, what did you do to deal with the pain? The thing is, the soreness, because I'm a big baby. I'm 56 years old, and I hate pain. My ice pack all melted, so I'm trying very low warm heat right now, and it's very soothing. But I have slept very little; every time I move, I wake up. How long does it take until the pain becomes bearable? Thank you.

It's just one day, Lady, one day. No one in the world would be pain-free after an operation, so hold in there, and each day it will get better. This is normal. Miracles cost too much more.

I’m usually not one for “support groups” and loathe whatever the hell they call Facebook these days.
This site has literally been a lifesaver because of its members, part support group, part dad jokes, part story telling, mostly friendship and if people don’t agree they just keep it to themselves. I honestly reminds me of the old days and just plain old polite society, it helps me more than I can explain. Thank you to everyone that allows me to engage with them and to all the members that help other members!

I know it's only been a day. My daughter is going to pick up my pain medication today because by the time I got home yesterday, the pharmacy was closed. I have hydrocodone for my spinal stenosis, and I was taking that, but it's just not helping much. I know it takes a while; it just seems like this is more painful than when I originally had my colostomy. It kind of just blew me away because I have a very high pain tolerance, and this exceeded it. But thank you so much for the message, and I know everything good sometimes comes with pain. One very nice thing is I do not look like I swallowed a watermelon anymore. I had a huge lump in the middle of my stomach, and it's not completely gone, but it is almost. There's still some swelling, and I can't wait to see what it looks like when I'm all healed.

I just had incisional hernia and parastomal hernia repair done on May 15, and I am still in pain. I was told I'd be in pain for as much as 6 months. I took painkillers at first, but now I just take Tylenol and deal with the pain. It is rather uncomfortable. I was in the hospital twice: once for the surgery and then I was back for ileus. My stoma didn't wake up after surgery, and I was vomiting all over the place. I had to go back in the hospital and get an NG tube. I hate NG tubes. I truly hate them. Now my ostomy is working again, but I am still in pain. I didn't want to stay on painkillers because I heard they can constipate you, and I didn't want to have to go to the hospital a third time. I do agree the pain is a lot to deal with. Ice packs help some on the tummy. I haven't tried a heating pad because it's hot enough here since it's summertime, but I would imagine a heating pad might help as well. Laying down flat helps some. Being still helps too, not moving around too much, like sitting and watching TV or something.

They said it could hurt for up to 6 months? Wow! Was your hernia very big?

It takes approximately 6 weeks for the pain to totally decrease. One day at a time. The first 7 days are the hardest. Take your pain meds and take minor short walks around the house, eat well, and drink water. Movement helps when healing. Every day you should notice a minor decrease in pain.
