Hi, is there a sharp tool to cut the hole in the flange? I have an oval stoma. I have used scissors for years, but I want something more accurate.

Mine is oval too, but all I've found are the oval templates from Hollister (if you ask) - still use scissors.

I was lucky and found one my size. See what your supplier has in stock.

I take part in these forums almost every day. They and the people that contribute to them have made all the difference in my having the courage to live a normal life with an ileostomy. The people here are marvelous and come from all walks of life and from all over the world. Hearing what others have lived through has really helped me put my own experience in perspective. I highly recommend all ostomates and caretakers of ostomates to come join us.

I have a small pair of curved scissors that were given to me by the ostomy nurse at the hospital when I first had surgery. They still work great. I figured they came from one of the ostomy supply companies, but I don't know for sure. Try calling Hollister or Coloplast and ask?

I use a good ol' fashioned seam ripper! It works great.

I use scissors but had the same thought…. I just looked for something on Amazon using the inquiry “Ostomy pouch cutter.”

Only shows scissors of all types, but also, just as soaring_arrow has mentioned - an old-fashioned seam ripper…. jb

Try searching Amazon small oval cookie cutter; it comes up with a bunch of options.

Coloplast curved scissors. They're on Amazon, and any medical supplier should carry them.

That is a neat tool.

Especially if fingers and thumbs are compromised—arthritis.

It's a hole saw. @ Home Depot 🤭..

...now if Amazon's cutter could be attached to a cordless drill..

Whoa! Tim Allen (Home Improvement) moment. 😆..

I was given a small medical scissors with the curved blades; I found them quite accurate. But I had considered sliding something inside the bag and using a craft knife, just haven't found anything small enough and hard enough for a craft knife not to puncture the front of the bag.

Check out NuHope hole cutters: https://nuhopelabs.com/collections/frontpage/products/stoma-hole-cutter

They do oval ones, too. I have a couple and really like them.

You can order the small curved scissors to cut the wafers from medical supply companies like Vitality Medical or Byram. Maybe Amazon.

Nu-Hope has flange cutters. Oval cutters are custom made but are available: https://nuhopelabs.com/products/stoma-hole-cutter

Hi Bootsy. Scissors leave a jagged edge and can abrade your stoma. Nu-Hope Medical has a stoma hole cutter. It makes a smooth, perfect cut. Measure to get the right size cutter. Just center it over the flange and press.

Hi

Dansac manufactures oval precut bags / base plates - please investigate these.
