Hi everyone,

It's been 2.5 months since I had my colostomy. It's tough for me, also going through chemotherapy.

Anyway, I have many restrictions regarding food. I just wanted to know other people's food habits.

If you share, it would be great. Thanks.

So hard during chemo. I was told to get calories wherever I could, whatever still tastes good, even if it's sweet or salty. Dairy was an issue after my colostomy, though, leading to more liquid output. Hydration and protein (or protein drinks) for healing are also mentioned often.

I still avoid seeds, peels, corn, and other things that don't digest easily, but my bowel is very short. You will see lots of suggestions on this site.
Best to you during your recovery and treatment. I'm in the same boat but further down the river. It gets easier.
My mantra: “I'm living… not dying” or trying hard not to.😊

My husband's ostomy nurse recommended the site two years ago. The help and recommendations they have given us is invaluable.

Sorry you're going through chemo; I did that, and it was not fun. Speak to your doctor first, but mine ended up recommending MiraLax every day because the chemo was causing constipation. I ended up eating a lot of crackers, soup, and lemonade, as those were the only things that tasted good during chemo. Not even coffee tasted good to me, and I love coffee!

Chemo did a number on my appetite and ability to keep food down. I ate a lot of rice with gravy, pasta with butter and cheese, toast with peanut butter, soup, etc.

My chemo gave me cold sensitivity, so I couldn't tolerate anything cold. It made it hard to drink protein drinks because they really aren't good at room temperature. But I came to wish I had forced more down. Protein really is important.
