Hello, I had urostomy surgery with a bag 3 years ago. I haven't had to wear a suit and tie since, but I know that day is coming. Any tips on wearing a suit with a bag? Thanks🥰☺️

G-Day Maico,

Where is your stoma and where is your bag?

For those of you still looking for love after your ostomy... don't give up! One day, when you least expect it, there will be a message in your inbox... always remember that when you're not looking, life has a brilliant way of surprising you with someone in your life you have so much in common with, and either you make a great new friend or you will find the person you were always looking for! I, for one, thank God I found this website... I was in a low place when I first started, and now I've never been happier! ~Traci~

I wore a suit every day for years, no problem.  The suit jacket pretty much covers up the place where the bag is.

As an ileostomate, I haven't got a clue - if your bag is similar to other equipment, it should be well hidden by a suit coat… If a leg tube is used, trousers would be great…. As you can see, I have no idea about urostomy requirements… Hope you will receive info from someone in the know… jb

G-day Maico250,

I would suggest that you make your bag smaller by using the IGGIE Clip by folding it over two or three times and then adding the clip.

If I were a guy, I'd go with a leg bag. I think that would be the least noticeable option. (Women's pants are not as accommodating.)

If you don't want a leg bag, avoid stripes in the suit since the bag may distort the lines, making it more obvious. A random pattern would help, but tbh I cannot imagine any pattern subtle enough for a formal suit that would be any help. But then again, I haven't shopped for a man's suit in many years, so what do I know?

Hi Maico,

Had the same problem when my mom died and I had to play dress-up a couple of years ago. Assuming your stoma is above the belt line, you don't have too many options other than to keep it covered, as Henry and Beacher said. Rolling it up so far that it clears your belt just limits how much your bag will hold, and if you empty frequently or forget (since it will fill up much quicker), you're screwed. A leg bag won't work in this scenario either, but is an interesting thought if you could get your output to it. I ended up sewing a slit in my shirt to allow me to tuck my shirt in completely, yet let my bag hang outside my shirt and over my belt line..........and just kept my jacket buttoned. Some previously mentioned wearing larger pants with suspenders to allow their bag to go under their very loose pants' waist........and I guess this would work if you don't mind looking like an old geezer wearing suspenders. Another option would be a horizontal StealthBelt worn under your shirt, but that will depend on how close to your belt line your stoma is. We've discussed this topic before a number of times, and there are no new better ways that I'm aware of. Of course, if your stoma is below your belt, we wouldn't be having this conversation.......so nothing to add there. Let us know what works for you!
