Tips for Wearing a Suit with a Urostomy Bag

When you have a urostomy and need to dress up in a suit and tie, it can feel a bit daunting at first. But with a few practical tips, you can look sharp and feel comfortable. Here are some helpful suggestions from others who have been in the same situation:

1. Use a Jacket or Vest for Camouflage
- A suit jacket alone often does a great job of hiding the pouch. Adding a matching vest can provide an extra layer that helps blend the appliance seamlessly.

2. Shorten or Compact the Pouch
- You can fold the bottom of the pouch two to three times and secure it with an IGGIE Clip to make it less bulky and more manageable.

3. Consider a Leg-Bag Option
- Diverting to a leg bag can be a good choice for formal occasions, as trousers can conceal it well. This might be more challenging with women's pants, though.

4. Choose the Right Fabric and Patterns
- Avoid vertical stripes, as the pouch might distort the lines and draw attention. Opt for solid colors or random patterns to minimize any visual clues.

5. Belt-Line Work-Arounds for a High Stoma
- Roll the pouch up above the belt, but remember to empty it more often since the capacity is reduced.
- Sew a vertical slit in your shirt, tuck it in fully, and let the pouch hang outside your trousers, keeping the jacket buttoned.
- Wear trousers one size larger and use suspenders to hold them up, allowing the pouch to sit inside without pressure.

6. Use Support Belts
- A horizontal StealthBelt worn under your shirt can help keep a high stoma pouch flat. Its effectiveness will depend on how close your stoma is to the belt line.

These tips can help you feel more at ease and confident when dressing up for formal occasions.
