Yup, I've had my colostomy since Dec 2023, and I just had a blowout that caught me by surprise. Luckily, I was at home, but now I need to do 2 loads of laundry instead of just one. 🤣 I've been changing my diet around, and it's having an impact on my output. Plus, I was busy doing all the morning things, getting kids off to school, feeding the pooch, so I didn't pay enough attention when The Producer started to give me little ouchies. As we all say, shit happens, and shit happens whether you're ready or not. That bathroom rug needed a wash anyway, right?

That sucks. Glad you were at home.

Congratulations on completing another stage of the initiation ceremony! It happens to all of us at some point, whatever we do or don't do. Laughter is the best medicine; laugh it off and treat yourself to something nice.

After I got my ostomy I found this site and got a lifetime membership. I have had so much help from the core members, things that even the wound care nurses didn't know. If you haven't been through this journey you don't know - only the people that have experienced this first hand truly understand what your going through. The support is enormously helpful getting through this. Afterwards when you start to learn how to deal with this new normal you can begin to help others.  ...mtnman.

I came close to a dangerous situation while traveling on the interstate. We all had milkshakes at the last stop, and I was the only one having digestive issues. Luckily, there were at least three rest areas with at least one porta-potty within an hour's drive!

Milkshakes will make my bag explode!

Lol... the bathroom rug always needs a wash. I've found that the bathroom floor usually needs a good mopping anyway. The accident is just additional motivation.

Shit happens just once in a while.

After a time, we just learned to smile.

Hi Dwild, the first time I had an accident, it was at a McDonald's, but it wasn't a blowout; it was the plastic clip that I used too long, and it failed.

Good for you for having a positive attitude about things. You could have let it really bother you, but you didn't. That is a really good example for others. Yes, shit happens. I am glad you were at home when it happened.
